Example:

Indirect speech: Peter shouted that it was his toy.

Direct speech: Peter shouted, " That's my toy!"

Retelling or reporting what another person said, not in his exact words.

Direct speech: The woman said, "I will buy some new shoes."

Indirect speech: The woman said that she would buy some new shoes.
