Adverbs

What are adverbs?

Adverbs tell us more about the verb. They often end with -ly, but not always. They tell us where, when or how an action happens.

In order to determine the adverb, we can ask a question with the verb.

Different types of adverbs:

  • Adverb of time: Question: when?

I'm going to do my homework soon. When are you going to do your homework? = soon

  • Adverb of place: Question: where?

My book is over there. Where is my book? over there

  • Adverb of manner: Question: how?

She calmly asked her to sit down. How did she ask her to sit down? calmly

  • Adverb of frequency: Question: how often?

I wash my hair daily. How often do I wash my hair? = daily
