What are plurals?
Plurals mean more than one.
Plural rules:
Most nouns become more than one by just adding an -s.
Example: dog - dogs ; friend - friends
Nouns ending with -sh ; -ch ; -x ; -s gets an -es in the plural form.
Example: box - boxes ; match - matches ; dress - dresses
Nouns that end with an -f / -fe, drop the -f and add -ves in the plural form.
Example: leaf - leaves ; thief - thieves ; knife - knives
Nouns that end with a -y, with a consonant in front of it, drop the y and add -ies.
Example: puppy - puppies ; lady - ladies
Nouns that end in a -y, with a vowel in front of it, you just add -s.
Example: monkey - monkeys
Some nouns stay the same as in the singular form.
Example: fruit, buck, sheep
Some nouns we use only in the plural form.
Example: measles, mumps, scissors, trousers
Some nouns changes completely in the plural form.
Example: ox - oxen ; mouse - mice ; child - children
